Let’s talk about the not-so-glamorous side of getting your music made: the money part. A full production at The T House Studios costs $1,200 — and I get it, that can feel out of reach if you’re still playing coffee shops and scraping together gas money between gigs.
But here’s the thing: it’s not impossible. I know because I’ve done it myself.
About eight years ago, I ran a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo and raised $3,664 to help fund my own project. No major label, no big investor. Just my community, a bit of hustle, and the willingness to ask for support.
The truth is, most artists aren’t sitting on stacks of cash for their next recording. But the ones who make it happen? They’re the ones who get creative about how to fund it.
Sometimes that means playing more shows and setting aside a chunk of the payout each time. Sometimes it’s as simple as saving $50 from every paycheck and watching that add up over time. Small moves count.
Crowdfunding still works, too — when it’s done right. The key is giving people a reason to feel like they’re part of the project. That could be exclusive demos, handwritten lyric sheets, private livestreams, merch bundles, or just a heartfelt explanation of why the project matters to you.
There’s no one right way to fund your music. But if you care about getting your tracks made the way they deserve to be made — with the right production, the right mix, the right team — then it’s worth figuring out what path works for you.
In the next post, I’ll break down how to budget for your dream project without burning out (or giving up halfway through).
